Guyana Vanaf de eeuwwisseling tot de verkiezingen van 5 oktober 1992

Jack Menke en Jerry Egger, 1993

Guyana From the turn of the century until the elections of October 5, 1992 analyzes the Guyanese society in the 20th century. Guyana has been at the forefront in the Caribbean with remarkable experiments towards autonomous political and economic development since the turn of the 19th century. However, these tendencies were often quenched, or they were reversed by external forces. The 1992 elections marked a major turning point since 1968, when the political democracy experienced a serious crisis for a quarter of a century. These elections, according to observers, deserved the labels “free” and “fair,” ushering in a new era of political democratization in Guyana’s history.
